UC College Prep continually pushes boundaries to offer students and teachers the best courses and learning opportunities possible. The goal is to create online courses and content that students want to use and that are freely accessible anywhere and at any time.

To many students, academic technology lags behind the programs and gadgets they use every day. UC College Prep is creating content that students can access on a cell phone, a game player, iPod or MP3 player and more. The program is also incorporating safe social networking strategies into new course development so students learn in supportive and familiar virtual environments.

Each year UC College Prep awards Innovation Grants to course and content developers to experiment with new modes of content development. In this way, the program cultivates new thinking and even new technologies that future courses can utilize and students and educators can enjoy.

Although the plug-n-learn philosophy aligns with student lifestyles, UC College Prep is still building full online courses based on its expertise in digital pedagogy in firm alignment with state content standards and UC requirements. Knowledge objects or digital lessons can be extracted from UC College Prep courses and used independent of the formal course. In the future, teachers may use these lessons to complement their own instruction online or in the classroom.

The following courses are currently in development:

  • Pre-Algebra
  • Algebra II
  • Pre-Calculus
  • AP Computer Science A
  • AP Statistics
  • AP Microeconomics
  • Economics

Future generations of courses will add career-tech education (CTE) and project-based learning (PBL), both recently approved as options by the UC Academic Senate. This presents more options for students who benefit most from applied learning.
