This two-semester course sequence acquaints students with the general concepts of life, including reproduction, balance in nature, and the nature of living things. This course has been audited and authorized by the College Board to use the “AP®” designation. This course requires the completion of 16 onsite supervised hands-on, or wet labs, which make up at least 20 percent of the course and therefore satisfies the University of California (UC) Laboratory Science criteria.

In addition to the 16 hands-on labs, 14 weblabs are also available for students as a supplement to this course. The AP Biology weblabs are interactive web-based high school level biology labs that provide the realism of traditional hands-on labs. Computer simulated or web-based labs are not a substitute for hands-on labs. Also, please note that the University of California's current online courses/policy states that UC will not accept any online course in area of Laboratory Science unless it includes a supervised wet lab component.
